Kasra
Kasra Mowlavi is a drum and bass producer and DJ from London. He is closely associated with Critical Music, which he runs as a label vehicle for his work and which becomes an important part of the UK underground scene.
Critical Music
Kasra founds Critical at a time when many new labels are appearing and quickly disappearing, and he builds it into a respected imprint with a distinct identity. The label focuses on high-quality, pioneering drum and bass and becomes known for its uncompromising approach. Kasra uses it to showcase both his own music and other artists associated with the label.
Production and collaborations
His first production release comes in 2005 with “Babylon”, a dancefloor track made with Austrian producer Dkay and issued on Brigand Records. The track gains strong support from DJs, including Fabio on Radio 1, and attracts interest from labels across the scene. He also works with Cyantific on “Outer Limits”, again with D.Kay on “Spider”, and with Lomax on “Warrior”, which appears on the Critical Sound Vol 1 EP.
DJ work and performances
As the profile of Critical grows, Kasra’s DJ career expands, with bookings across Europe in cities including Berlin, Brussels, Zurich and Zagreb. He also headlines nights in other parts of the world, with appearances in Shanghai and Vienna among the highlights mentioned in his career.
Style and standing
Kasra is described as a prominent figure in the UK underground scene, and his work is associated with drum and bass and electronic music. His label’s releases and his own sets are presented as part of a wider effort to support and develop the sound around Critical Music.
