Kanda Bongo Man
Kanda Bongo Man is a soukous musician from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, born in 1955. He is associated with soukous and kwassa kwassa.
He is known for changing the structure of soukous songs. In the style that becomes associated with him, guitar solos appear after each verse, and sometimes at the start of a song, rather than only at the end. This approach helps establish the kwassa kwassa dance rhythm, in which the hips move back and forth while the hands follow the motion.
He tours frequently in Europe and the United States. He also performs at the LIVE 8: Africa Calling concert in Cornwall in 2005.
