Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope is a psychedelic folk and psychedelic rock group from Los Angeles, United States. The band is active from 1966 to 1970 and is known for mixing folk rock, psychedelic folk, psychedelic rock and related American roots and experimental influences.

Overview

The group includes David Lindley and Chris Darrow among its members. It develops a wide-ranging sound that draws on country, folk, blues, jazz, acid rock and eastern ragas, placing it within the 1960s US psychedelic folk and ethnic scene.

Recordings

Kaleidoscope releases four studio albums: Side Trips (1967), A Beacon From Mars (1968), Incredible! (1969) and Bernice (1970). The band later reunites in 1976 and again in 1991, releasing When Scopes Collide (1976) and Greetings From Kartoonistan... (We Ain't Dead Yet) (1991).

Context

The name Kaleidoscope is also used by several other acts from different countries and genres, including a British psychedelic rock band from the same era, but the Los Angeles group is the American psychedelic outfit associated with Lindley and Darrow.
