K-Klass

K-Klass are a house and dance act from Wales. The group forms around the meeting of minds that comes from nights at the Hacienda’s “Nude” nights in 1988, and they go on to become regular performers at the venue. They later become residents for Cream, the dance brand, and play guest slots at events around the world.

Early releases and breakthrough

They build underground support with the Wildlife E.P., released in 1990. They then reach a wider audience with Rhythm Is a Mystery, which reaches No. 3 in the UK Top 40, followed by Let Me Show You, which reaches No. 13.

Remixes, production and collaborations

K-Klass work extensively as remixers and producers. Their studio work includes collaborations with Pet Shop Boys, Kathy Brown, Shakedown, Whitney Houston, Gerri Halliwell, Blondie, Bobby Brown, M People, Level 42, Kylie Minogue, Rozalla, Sunscreem, Frankie Knuckles, Bizarre Inc, Kathy Sledge, New Order, Janet Jackson, Luther Vandross, Lisa Stansfield and Candi Staton.

They continue to release material and remixes, including Capture Me on Nocturnal Groove, Right & Exact on Stealth Records, Bad Boy on Hotfingers, Let the Freak featuring Reza on Mjuzieek Digital, La Luna with Rob Nutek on Whartone Records, People of All Nations on Wazzup, a remake of their 1994 track What Your Missing on Lissat & Voltaxx and Marc Fisher’s Tactical Records, a rework of Duke’s So in Love with You, and a remix for Loreen’s Crying Out Your Name on Warner Music Sweden.

Awards and label work

K-Klass win the International Dance Awards in 1995 and receive a Grammy nomination in the USA remix category in 2002. In 2012 they start their own label, Klass Action, which is intended to release work by both emerging and established producers as well as new K-Klass material. The label’s first release is Rock the House.

Live work

The act remains active as DJs, producers and remixers, with a focus on adapting their sets to different venues and audiences. They describe key live moments as hearing Graeme Park play Rhythm Is a Mystery at the Hacienda in 1991 and performing the final set in the main room at Cream’s last weekly Liverpool night, where they close with Let Me Show You.
