Just Jinger

Just Jinger is a South African rock group from Randburg, formed in 1996 and active since then. The band is known for contemporary rock and alternative rock, with a guitar-led sound.

Line-up

The group consists of Ard Matthews on vocals and guitar, Brent Harris on drums and vocals, and Denholm Harding on bass and vocals.

Name change and releases

In 2006 the band changes the spelling of its name from Just Jinger to Just Jinjer, after some listeners pronounced the original name to rhyme with “finger”. Under the new spelling, it releases an eponymous album that includes 13 tracks and mixes new material with older songs.

The band’s songs include “Can I Have More”, “Home”, “Time of Your Life” and “What He Means”. “What He Means” is a number one single in South Africa in 2006.

Career and recognition

Just Jinger is one of the best-selling rock groups in South Africa, with sales of more than a quarter of a million albums over just over a decade. The band tours with U2, Counting Crows, Live and Goo Goo Dolls, among other major artists.

International releases

The group’s first international release appears on Curb Records, which also issues an EP featuring “Can I Have More”, “Home” and “Time of Your Life”, and later releases “What He Means” as a single.

Other notes

Ard Matthews and Brent Harris are both supporters of Tottenham Hotspur and are known to wear Spurs shirts during performances.
