Junius

Junius is an American rock group from Boston, Massachusetts, active since 2003. Its lineup consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Joseph E. Martinez, guitarist Michael Repasch-Nieves, bassist Joel Munguia and drummer Dana Filloon. The band’s name comes from Junius, the pseudonym of a political writer from the late 18th century.

Releases and recordings

The group’s first releases are the EPs Forcing Out the Silence and Blood is Bright, both issued on Radar Recordings. These are later reissued together as a self-titled CD on the same label. Junius’ first full-length album, The Martyrdom of a Catastrophist, follows and is released through The Mylene Sheath in the United States and Make My Day Records in Europe. The record is inspired by the writings of theorist Immanuel Velikovsky and takes the band nearly three years to complete.

The band later releases Reports from the Threshold of Death through Prosthetic Records. It also appears on the split EP with Rosetta, which includes the track “A Dark Day With Night”. Junius contributes a cover of HUM’s “Firehead” to the tribute release Songs of Farewell and Departure: A Tribute to HUM. The band also issues the EP Days of the Fallen Sun.

Style and activity

Junius is associated with alternative rock, post-rock and post-metal, with the broader tags also including progressive rock, space rock and indie. In addition to studio releases, the band makes a music video for “All Shall Float”.
