Background and releases

The group forms in Gothenburg in the late 1990s and first issues a 7-inch in 2000. Its first substantial release is the self-released Black Refuge EP in 2006, followed by the first full-length album, Fields, in 2010. The second album, Junip, follows in 2013.

Sound

Junip’s music is described as folk rock, folktronica and indie folk. Its arrangements combine organ, synthesiser and drums with González’s nylon-string guitar and voice. The songs are often melodic, dynamic and dark in tone, with a sound that is at once intimate and atmospheric. The group’s style is also closely associated with González’s solo work.
