Juke

Juke is a psychedelic rock group from France, active from 2011 to the present. The name is also used by other acts, but this project is a three-piece band built around Alex on fuzz bass, Dan on synth keys and Damian on drums. It develops a fuzzy synth rock sound from improvised jams, with a heavy, driving style and an emphasis on melody.

Style and influences

The group draws on grunge and related alternative rock, with references to Mudhoney, Nirvana, Meat Puppets and Dinosaur Jr. Its sound also reflects an interest in Depeche Mode, Soft Cell and Suicide, combining pop song structures with a more stripped-back, lo-fi approach. The result is described through bass-led energy, synth textures and anthemic melodies.

Background

Alex, the frontman, grows up in Whitton near Twickenham and moves away from the Baptist upbringing planned by his parents. The band rehearses in an industrial estate in Hounslow before taking the stage.

Other act with the same name

Another Juke is a four-piece cover band based in Leicester, formed in 2005 by Luke Higgins. That group includes David Tregoning on piano and vocals, Max Perryment on bass, and Calder McLaughlin on djembe, and it plays venues around the Leicester area.
