Juanes
Juanes is the stage name of Juan Esteban Aristizábal Vásquez, a Colombian singer and rock musician from Medellín, Colombia. He is associated with latin, latin pop, latin rock, pop, pop rock and rock, and is credited in the input as a Universal Music Latino artist.
Early career
He begins performing under the name Juanes after his father starts using it as a contraction of his first names, Juan and Esteban. The name also becomes the one his friends know him by, and he keeps it for his music career. His recording career starts in 1988, when he forms the rock band Ekhymosis with Andrés García, Fernando “Toby” Tobón and José David Lopera.
Solo career and awards
After Ekhymosis disbands, Juanes releases his solo debut, Fijate Bien, in 2000. The album has a politically minded approach and wins him three Latin Grammys. His second solo album, Un Día Normal, is produced by Gustavo Santaolalla and becomes a major success across Latin America. It dominates the Latin Grammy Awards that year, when he receives five nominations and wins awards including Song of the Year and Album of the Year.
At the 2005 Latin Grammy Awards, he wins three more awards, bringing his total to nine Grammy awards at that point. These include Best Rock Song for Nada Valgo Sin Tu Amor, Best Rock Solo Album for Mi Sangre, and Best Music Video for Volverte a Ver.
Later releases
His album La Vida Es Un Ratico is released in 2007 and wins three awards at the 2008 Latin Grammy Awards. Songs from the album include Me Enamora and Tres.
