Josienne Clarke

Josienne Clarke is a Scottish folk and singer-songwriter. She records and performs in partnership with guitarist Ben Walker under the name Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker.

Career

Clarke begins performing and writing from an early age, learning parts to sing along with her father as he plays folk and ballad songs on his Spanish guitar. She grows up around singing and playing, and this early experience shapes her stage presence and direct manner of communication. She later studies classical singing, and that training is reflected in the clarity of her voice and the precision of her writing.

Her musical background also includes choral singing, guitar-based music heard with friends, jazz, and experimental music. She keeps a lasting connection to the traditional music she learns in Sussex, which remains part of her approach as a songwriter and performer.

Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker

Clarke works with Ben Walker for around a decade before the partnership ends in 2018. The duo becomes her main recorded identity during that period.

PicaPica

After the end of the Clarke and Walker partnership, she co-founds PicaPica with folk singer Samantha Whates, guitarist and keyboardist Adam Beattie, and bassist and producer Sonny Johns.
