Josh Kumra

Josh Kumra is a singer-songwriter from Swindon, England. He grows up listening to the records his father plays, including Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and Nina Simone, and teaches himself guitar at the age of three. He performs under the name Josh Kumra, with the name also appearing as Josh Kurma in some listings.

Early development

He plays at bars and venues in his hometown and travels to other gigs on very little money. He later takes his band on the road and plays their first London show at Monkey Chew’s in Camden.

Recording and releases

After the Camden show, the band links with a management team and signs a publishing deal with Levels / EMI. Kumra also features on Wretch 32’s single “Don’t Go” and continues writing and recording material in the studio.

Style

His music is associated with acoustic singer-songwriter material, and he is described as a heartfelt performer. He is compared to Ray LaMontagne and Ben Harper.
