Joseph Cotton

Joseph Cotton, also known as Jah Walton, is a reggae and dancehall deejay active since the mid-1970s. He is born in 1957 and is associated with Saint Ann, France. He first records under the name Jah Walton, having been born Silbert Walton.

Early career

After spending a year in the Jamaican police force, he turns to recording in 1976. He works first with Joe Gibbs, then moves on to Harry Mudie. During this period he records Stay a Yard and Praise God, Touch Her Where She Want It Most, which becomes the title track of his debut album, and Married To A Bank Cashier.

As Joseph Cotton

In the mid-1980s he begins recording as Joseph Cotton and finds success in the United Kingdom with No Touch The Style. That leads to an appearance on Channel 4's Club Mix programme in 1987. Further reggae chart hits follow with Things Running Slow, Pat Ha Fe Cook, Tutoring, Judge Cotton, and What Is This.

Later activity

He continues to perform and record into the 1990s and 2000s.
