Jonquil

Jonquil is an alternative and tropical pop group from Oxford, United Kingdom. The band forms around the project of Hugo Manuel, a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who also performs as Chad Valley. It begins as a bedroom recording project before developing into a full band.

Releases

Jonquil releases two albums on Try Harder: Sunny Casinos and Lions. It also issues the Whistle Low EP on Acuarela Records. The group is also associated with the mini-LP One Hundred Suns on Dovecote Records.

Performing and activity

The band tours the UK and Europe extensively and supports acts including Bombay Bicycle Club, Foals and The Morning Benders.

Style

Jonquil describes its own sound as “Paul Simon’s take on The Smiths”.
