Jon Amor Blues Group

Jon Amor Blues Group is a UK blues rock group led by vocalist and guitarist Jon Amor, who previously plays with the award-winning British band The Hoax. The group forms with Amor’s long-time collaborators Dave Doherty, Chris Doherty and Simon Small, and it draws on blues traditions as well as more modern rock-influenced acts. Its sound is described as raw and uncompromising, with a strong emphasis on guitar playing.

Background

Amor returns to his blues roots with this group after spending around ten years developing as a songwriter and solo performer. The project brings together material and musicianship shaped by his work in The Hoax during the 1990s. The group is based in the United Kingdom.

Jon Amor

Amor sings and plays guitar. He is joined by brothers Dave Doherty on guitar and Chris Doherty on bass, alongside Simon Small on drums.

Recording and performance

Jon Amor Blues Group has Chris, Dave and Simon as regular collaborators, and they appear on the 2009 album Stories From The Crooked Room. The recording process for a later album takes place over two weeks on a farm in Cornwall, with the songs developed collaboratively and recorded live in a spontaneous way, often in three or four takes. The group also tours the UK in support of its releases.
