Jessica Simpson is an American singer, actress, television personality and fashion designer from Abilene, United States. Born in 1980, she begins to gain mainstream attention in 1999 and goes on to build a career across pop, teen pop and country music.

Recording career

Simpson releases five studio albums: Sweet Kisses in 1999, Irresistible in 2001, In This Skin in 2003, A Public Affair in 2006 and Do You Know in 2008. Her 2008 album marks her move into country music and presents a country direction in her sound. She also releases three EPs: This Is the Remix in 2002, Rejoyce: The Christmas Album in 2004 and Happy Christmas in 2010.

Her recording career includes seven Billboard Top 40 hits. She has three gold and two multi-platinum RIAA-certified studio albums, and four of her albums reach the top 10 on the US Billboard 200. Her sales total 20 million records worldwide. In Australia, her record sales exceed 426,000 copies.

Media, fashion and television work

Alongside music, Simpson appears in several television shows, films and commercials. She also stars with her then-husband Nick Lachey in the MTV reality series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. Outside performing, she launches a line of hair and beauty products and designs fragrances, shoes, clothes and handbags for women.

Simpson is ranked number 95 on Billboard’s artists of the decade list in 2009 and number 86 on Billboard 200 artists, based on album sales alone. She is also placed at number 113 on ARIA’s 1000 artists chart for the Music Decade Charts covering 1980–2010. Her charitable work includes support for Operation Smile and a USO-hosted tour for troops stationed overseas.

Personal life

Simpson is engaged to Eric Johnson, a former NFL player. Their daughter, Maxwell Drew Johnson, is born on May 1, 2012.
