Jeremia
Jeremia is a studio-based project first formed in Vienna in 1987. It remains centred on recording work and has involved a range of musicians over the years.
Background
Jeremia writes the songs and lyrics, and his musical life begins early: he starts making music at the age of five, gets his first guitar at eight, and begins playing drums five years later. He later leaves school to focus on music. During the New Wave period he plays with several bands, mainly on drums and later bass, and at one point becomes the frontman of a group, helped by what is described as a striking stage image.
He also forms Go4it with a friend and records the LP Face the Music. After that he works as a studio musician and signs to a German label.
Career developments
In 1990 he wins a radio contest, signs a new deal and makes a video in New York. The song is played regularly in Austria, receives a strong response and reaches the charts, although distribution problems affect the release. From 1993 he focuses mainly on composing and arranging, and in 1997 he opens his own small studio.
Musical style
Jeremia’s music combines rock, pop and classical elements with medieval sounds and structures. It draws on American, British, Irish, German and Indian influences, while also reflecting a historical outlook, a Christian background and a stated European identity.
