Jemima

Jemima is an Indonesian singer-songwriter from Jakarta, born in 1984. She is described as part Malaysian, part Javanese, part Chinese and part Japanese, and she grows up in several places before settling for a period in New York, which she calls home.

In New York, she leads and sings in a gospel band and writes nine of the ten songs on the group’s first album before the age of 17. While in high school, she performs in the underground scene as a bass player in a funk and soul band and also dances with her school dance club around New York City.

At 18, she plays drums in an all-female punk and rock band called Skipper. The group performs at venues including CBGB, Downtime, Le Bar's Bat, Continental and Don Hills.

Jemima later returns to Indonesia to look for more of her family and herself, and continues to write and sing. Her work is associated with funk and blues, and she is also identified as a composer and producer.
