Jeff Young is a guitarist and piano player who is best known as the lead guitarist on Megadeth’s So Far, So Good… So What! (1987, Capitol Records). He works across thrash metal and a range of other styles, including acoustic, Brazilian, flamenco, jazz, Afro, Arabic, reggae, rock and classical music.

Megadeth

Young plays lead guitar on Megadeth’s platinum-selling album So Far, So Good… So What!. His work with the band places him in the thrash metal scene associated with Megadeth’s 1980s output.

Collaboration with Badi Assad

In 1997, Young records an acoustic-based collaboration with Brazilian musician Badi Assad called Chameleon on Verve/PolyGram. The release reaches number one in Europe and also tops JAZZIZ magazine’s readers’ poll for best Brazilian albums of the year. His connection with the Assad family also leads to songwriting work with Sergio Assad and two pieces on Badi Assad’s Verde album.

YMT Guitar Trio

Young is a member of the YMT Guitar Trio with Scott Morris and Steven Thachuk. The trio begins a run of concert dates in Florida, Bath, Los Angeles, Indiana and Ohio, and plans to record its first album and continue performing internationally.

Solo work and the Equilibrium Project

Young’s solo release, the Equilibrium Project, reflects the musical influences he develops through touring and studying different musical cultures. The recording is mixed by Michael Wagener and features vocals from Debby Holiday, Gregg Analla, Sage Sansone, Badi Assad, Lenine, Gilli Moon and Twinkle. It also includes contributions from Matt Chamberlain, Tony Franklin and the classical guitarists Sergio and Odair Assad.
