J.C. Satàn

J.C. Satàn is a French/Italian garage rock group from Bordeaux, active since 2010. The band is associated with garage punk, lo-fi rock and psychedelic rock, and its line-up includes Arthur Satàn.

Sound and style

The group’s music centres on feedback, rough-edged guitar lines and vocals that are often buried in the mix. Its sound combines noisy garage rock with psych-leaning textures and a lo-fi recording approach. The result is often described in terms of distortion, haze and abrupt melodic hooks.

Work and musical character

One of the band’s releases, Sick Of Love, brings together songs about morning-after sex, drug haze and escape themes, while also setting contrasting elements against each other: harsh noise and unexpectedly catchy harmonies. The music is compared with the Jesus & Mary Chain, the Black Lips, the Beach Boys and Death From Above 1979, reflecting its mix of noisy guitar pop, garage energy and heavy rhythmic force.

Recording approach

J.C. Satàn’s recordings are presented as deliberately rough and unpolished, with a dense, smudged sound that gives the songs a stripped-back and abrasive character.
