James Mallinson is a British record producer born in 1943 and died in 2018. He works in classical music and wins 15 awards in his career, including Grammy recognition across several decades.

He wins his first Grammy in 1979, when he is named Classical Producer of the Year. He later receives his most recent Grammy nominations and wins in 2008 for Best Opera Recording. He spends twelve years with the Decca Record Company before becoming a freelance classical producer in 1984.

Mallinson works with all the major record labels and with many leading classical artists. In 2000 he is closely involved in creating LSO Live, the London Symphony Orchestra’s in-house label, and produces all of its releases, which total 65 CDs. He is also closely involved with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Resound label, which wins its first Grammy in 2008.

He later helps establish a record label for the Mariinsky Theatre and its music director Valery Gergiev in St Petersburg. The first releases on that label appear in 2009 and receive Grammy nominations for 2010.
