Jacuzzi Boys

Jacuzzi Boys are a Miami, United States indie rock band active since 2007. The group forms in Miami in 2007 when Gabriel Alcala plays guitar and Diego Monasteri plays drums, with bassist Danny Gonzales joining soon after. Their sound combines lo-fi production, psychedelia and old-school pop elements, with clear roots in 1960s garage rock and punk.

Early releases and label history

The band’s first full-length album, No Seasons, appears in 2009 on the Orlando label Floridas Dying, which also releases work by other garage-oriented acts. A split 7-inch with Woven Bones in 2009 draws wider attention, and the band also receives an endorsement from Iggy Pop. After that, Jacuzzi Boys move to Hardly Art, the Sub Pop offshoot, for later releases.

Albums and EPs

Glazin', the band’s second album, appears in 2011. After extensive touring and a song placement in the film 50/50, they record their third album at Key Club Recording Co.; the material is mastered by Kramer and issued by Hardly Art in 2013 under the band name Jacuzzi Boys. In 2015 they release the six-song EP Happy Damage on their own Mag Mag label, working in Miami with producer Jonathan Nunez of Torche. In 2016 they release Ping Pong, a record with a 1990s indie rock and grunge influence, recorded in Los Angeles and self-released.

Style and context

Jacuzzi Boys are often described in terms of their lo-fi approach and garage-rock sound, alongside psychedelic and pop influences. Their work sits within a Miami indie rock context while drawing on earlier American rock traditions.
