Jack Beats

Jack Beats are a London-based electronic duo formed by Beni G and Plus One, active since 2007. The group is made up of Beni G, known for work with Mixologists, and DJ Plus One, who is associated with Scratch Perverts. Their sound sits within British house music and draws on fidget house, deep house, dubstep, electro and electro house, with an emphasis on heavy basslines, abrupt breakdowns and chopped-up vocal samples.

Style and influences

The duo’s productions combine house rhythms with bass-heavy and glitch-oriented elements. Their stated influences include Timbaland, Rage Against the Machine, A Guy Called Gerald and SebastiAn. Their approach is described through prominent low-end bass, large breakdowns and collage-like editing of accapellas and instrumental fragments.

Releases and collaborations

Jack Beats first gain wider attention through a rework of Boy 8-Bit’s track “Fogbank”. They also work on bass-heavy collaborations with Deekline and Wizard, and make refixes of Trip’s “Who’s That?” and The Black Ghosts’ “I Want Nothing”. They later turn “Epic Last Song” by Does It Offend You, Yeah? into a pop-dance oriented track.

Labels

The duo are associated with Cheap Thrills and also release on OWSLA and Night Bass.
