It Hugs Back
It Hugs Back are a London group active since 2006. They begin as a noise pop quartet formed by guitarist and singer Matthew Simms and bass player Paul Michael, with electric organ player Jack Theedom joining soon after. The line-up later includes drummer Will Blackaby, following a succession of other drummers: Dimitri Sudell, Lorraine Baker and Billy Cunningham.
The group works from material written, recorded and mixed by the band in Matthew Simms’s garage. Their releases are associated with 4AD, and their sophomore album Laughing Party appears in 2012.
Their music is described as spanning indie pop, indie, folk, rock, shoegaze, dance and electronica.
