Island

Island is a German progressive-metal and progressive-rock group from Bonn, Germany. It forms in autumn 2003 with Christian Kolf, Florian Toyka and Patrick Schroeder. The band records its first album, Orakel, in winter 2003/2004 at Flammenmeer Studios with Tim Steffens of Klabautamann. Six months later it records the Island EP at Studio 308 and mixes it at Sound-Sight Studios with Armin Rave. After that release, Patrick Schroeder leaves to focus on Centaurus-A. The band is signed to Vendlus Records.

Style

The band works in a progressive-metal/rock style and is associated with progressive rock, progressive metal, progressive death metal, death metal and atmospheric metal. Its sound is described as being close to Canterbury-style progressive rock, with a darker edge. Van Der Graaf Generator is a major influence, and Gentle Giant is also heard clearly in some of the music.
