InVertigo

InVertigo is a German progressive rock group with a line-up of Sebastian Brennert on vocals and keys, Matthias Hommel on bass, Carsten Dannert on drums, Jacques Moch on guitars and Michael Kuchenbecker on keys. Their music combines art rock and neo-prog, with long-form song structures, shifting rhythms, layered arrangements and a balance between complexity and melody. The group draws on progressive rock traditions associated with Genesis, Yes, Spock’s Beard, Marillion, The Flower Kings and Porcupine Tree, while presenting a sound described as distinct from those influences.

Releases and style

The band’s debut album, Next Stop Vertigo, appears in 2010. It includes tracks such as “Vertigo”, “The Night”, “Take Your Time”, “Night On Broadway”, “Saturday Evening” and “Special”. The album is noted for its mixture of tense, atmospheric pieces, more direct rock numbers and longer compositions. Its first pressing sells out within less than a year.

In 2012 the group releases Veritas, which includes “Darkness”, “Lullaby”, “Dr. Ho”, “Suspicion” and “Memoirs of a Mayfly”.

Live activity

After Next Stop Vertigo, InVertigo continues writing and performing live. The band appears as support for acts including Sylvan, Pure Reason Revolution and Fish, and also performs as a guest act at the UK progressive rock festival Summer’s End in 2011.

Name and identity

The name InVertigo is also associated with an earlier Australian pop/rock group called Invertigo, but the German progressive rock band is a separate act. The German group is active from 2000.
