Inner City

Inner City is a Detroit electronic and house group led by producer Kevin Saunderson. Formed in Detroit in 1988, the project pairs Saunderson’s Detroit techno background with vocal work from Chicago singer Paris Grey. The group is active from 1987 to the present.

Early releases and breakthrough

Inner City first breaks through with “Big Fun” in 1988, a track that becomes one of its best-known club anthems. The song leads to the group’s debut album, Big Fun, which is released in the US on Virgin Records and appears as Paradise in other territories in 1989.

Signature tracks

The second single from the debut album, “Good Life,” becomes one of Inner City’s defining recordings. It gains heavy MTV airplay and reaches number 4 on the UK chart. Other notable singles from the debut album include “Do You Love What You Feel” and “Ain’t Nobody Better.”

Later albums

Saunderson continues to release music under the Inner City name with the albums Fire in 1990, Praise in 1992 and Testament in 1993. These records produce further successful singles, although they do not match the chart impact of “Big Fun” and “Good Life.”
