Incubus
Incubus are an American alternative rock band from Calabasas, California, active since 1991. Their lineup includes Brandon Boyd on vocals and percussion, Mike Einziger on guitar, José Pasillas II on drums, Chris Kilmore on turntables, and Nicole Row on bass. Former members include Gavin Koppel on turntables, Alex Katunich, also known as Dirk Lance, on bass, and Ben Kenney on bass.
The band takes its name from a word Einziger selected from a dictionary shortly before the group’s first performance. Although the name has a mythological meaning, the members say they adopted it without any particular symbolic intent.
Incubus are identified with alternative rock and related styles including alternative metal, funk metal, funk rock, nu metal, and pop rock. They achieve commercial and critical success, with multi-platinum sales and several widely known singles.
Albums and recognition
The band gains mainstream recognition with the album Make Yourself in 1999. Their profile rises further with the single “Drive” and the follow-up album Morning View in 2001. Light Grenades debuts at number one in the United States and earns gold certification. The compilation Monuments and Melodies appears in 2009, alongside an international tour, and the studio album 8 follows in 2017.
