Iglooghost

Iglooghost is the electronic music project of Seamus Malliagh, a producer from Dorset, United Kingdom. Born in 1996, he makes fast-moving, densely layered music that draws on deconstructed club, electronic, experimental, experimental hip hop, glitch hop, grime, uk bass, juke, footwork, anime imagery, IDM, hip-hop and pop. His work is often built from rapid samples, high-pitched voices and complex beats, with a cartoon-like, highly detailed sound.

Early releases and first recognition

He first appears as a producer for underground rappers including Milo and Kool A.D. around 2013. In 2014 he releases two limited cassette projects, Treetunnels and Twenteen, which present his abstract beatmaking style. In 2015 he releases Milk Empire, a collaboration with California rapper Mr. Yote.

Brainfeeder releases

After Milk Empire, he signs to Brainfeeder, the label associated with Flying Lotus. His first release for the label is the digital EP Chinese Nü Yr, which is built around a story involving a gelatinous, amorphous worm called Xiāngjiāo. The release points towards a sound closer to pop-influenced abstract electronic music than to conventional hip-hop.

His next Brainfeeder release, Little Grids in 2016, is his second release for the label and his vinyl debut. It continues part of the Xiāngjiāo story while introducing new characters. The EP also includes a guest appearance from Charlotte Day Wilson and a remix by Slugabed. Later in 2016, he remixes Abra’s single “Crybaby”.

Neō Wax Bloom arrives in 2017 as his debut full-length album and expands on the ideas and characters developed on the earlier EPs.

Lei era

His second LP, Lei Line Eon, is his first LP released outside Brainfeeder. It marks a move away from the “Mamu Era” that runs between Chinese Nü Yr and CT/SM. The album begins a new “Lei” era, based around summoning ancient creatures through “Lei Music” and characterised by a more organic, orchestral sound than Neō Wax Bloom. This period is extended by Lei Disk [Radio Broadcast], presented as a radio show with lore inserted between tracks, and Amer Eon Micro, a physical-only release issued at his UK Lei Line Eon tour.

Style and character of the music

Across these releases, Iglooghost’s music is described by its speed, density and strong visual imagination. It combines abstract beatmaking with pop structure and unusual world-building, and it avoids straightforward or conventional forms.
