IC3 is the stage name of Roger Wilsom Mensah, a drum and bass MC associated with jungle as well as drum and bass. Based in West London, he begins rapping at the age of eight and is known early on as “the little kid that can rap”.

Career

From around 1994, IC3 builds his profile through radio work, especially on the pirate station Transition 1 in Ladbroke Grove, where he develops a large following. As bookings increase, he appears at club nights and raves including Roast, Jungle Fever, Desert Storm and A.W.O.L.

He goes on to work regularly with DJs across London, Europe and other parts of the world, and secures residencies at events and club nights such as Movement at Bar Rumba, Ram Records at The End, Slammin' Vinyl and One Nation.

Performance style and collaborations

IC3 is described as a versatile MC with residencies at liquid, breaks and rave nights. He often performs with Mampi Swift, with whom he forms a well-known pairing. His musical influences range from old-school hip-hop acts such as Big Daddy Kane and N.W.A to 1980s pop groups such as Duran Duran.

Acting and other work

Alongside music, IC3 studies theatre at drama college and university and works as an actor in plays and theatre productions. After a break from acting, he returns to it in 2005 and appears in films, while also developing his own IC3 Show for DVD release.
