Huntsville

Huntsville is a Norwegian experimental rock group made up of Ivar Grydeland, Tonny Kluften and Ingar Zach. The trio works in improvisation and uses an unusual instrumental setup, including banjo, double bass, pedal steel, percussion, tabla machine, sarangi box and shruti box. Their music draws on folk material while moving it into abstract, drone-based forms.

The group’s sound is described through links to experimental and avant-garde music, with references to artists and groups such as Supersilent, Bohren Und Der Club Of Gore, Beirut, Tape, Tim Hecker, In The Country and John Cage. Their work has also been characterised as “abstract drone Americana” and “yoga country”.

Huntsville’s debut release, For the Middle Class, appears in 2006 on the Norwegian label Rune Grammofon. Their second album, Eco, Arches & Eras, is a double album and includes guest appearances by Sidsel Endresen on vocals, Nels Cline on guitar and Glenn Kotche on percussion.
