Hot Fiction

Hot Fiction are a UK rock group formed in 2008 by Andy Yeoh and Simon Miller. The duo plays garage rock and blues as a two-piece band, with Andy Yeoh singing and drumming and Simon Miller on guitar.

Style and sound

The group’s sound combines garage rock, blues rock and heavy blues influences, with riff-led songs and a live approach built around the contrast between a singing-drummer and a guitarist. Their music is described as drawing on the energy of Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys, with additional comparisons to the Black Keys, the White Stripes, Eagles of Death Metal, Seasick Steve and Queens of the Stone Age. Their work is also framed as garage soul, with strong blues elements and a focus on atmosphere as well as force.

Formation and activity

Yeoh and Miller meet at school, where they jam together and play with friends before developing their partnership further after class. They continue through university and other musical projects before reuniting to form Hot Fiction in 2008. The band is active in the United Kingdom and continues to write, record and perform live.

Live performance and recordings

Hot Fiction is noted for its live performances, with the pair described as having a strong mutual musical understanding on stage. Their debut album is Dark Room, and the band tours and builds its audience through gigs and festival appearances. Their activity includes work in London and Bristol.
