Hookworms

Hookworms are a psychedelic and noise rock group from Leeds, United Kingdom, active from 2010 to 2018. The band is a five-piece in the original description, and the named members are Matthew Benn, Matthew Johnson and Jonathan Nash.

Style and sound

Their music sits within psychedelic rock, noise rock and indie, with a focus on dense, repetitive grooves, echo-heavy vocals and synth drone. They are associated with the Leeds scene and are described as working in the tradition of artists such as Spacemen 3, Wooden Shjips, Loop and Spectrum.

Recordings

Hookworms first issue a self-titled cassette on Sun Ark Records, the label run by Sun Araw and Magic Lantern. That tape later receives a heavyweight 12-inch vinyl reissue on Faux Discx and Gringo Records. Their debut album is Pearl Mystic, which appears in 2013, followed by The Hum in 2014.
