Honeymoan

Honeymoan is an indie pop and alternative rock band from Cape Town, South Africa. It begins as a casual jam session involving members of local alternative groups, then develops into a more defined project built around Alison Rachel on vocals, Skye MacInnes on guitar, Josh Berry on bass and Kenan Tatt on drums. Before joining Honeymoan, the members play in their own alternative, indie and psych rock bands.

Sound and style

The band first imagines itself as a dream pop project, but the music quickly moves in a broader direction. Its sound draws on indie pop, rock, electropop and alternative pop, with influences that range across Drake, Alvvays, 100 Gecs, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tame Impala. The group also uses elements associated with shoegaze, psych rock, R&B and funk, shifting between bass-led tracks and more anthem-like pop songs.

Career

Honeymoan tours Europe in 2019 and then returns to writing new material. The band works on a four-track EP titled Palace, which leans into its pop side while keeping a varied approach from song to song. The group continues to write and produce original alternative pop centred on themes of youth and early adulthood, love, lust and creative ambition.
