Home Free
Home Free is an American country a cappella group from Mankato, Minnesota, active since 1999. The group is built around five main vocal parts and performs in a traditional barbershop quartet format with percussion added on top. Its members are Austin Brown on lead tenor, Rob Lundquist on tenor, Adam Chance on baritone, Tim Foust on bass, and Adam Rupp on percussion. The group is also identified with Chris Rupp in its membership history.
Formation and early work
Home Free begins as a show group and tours extensively, with a schedule of around 200 shows a year across the United States. Its sound combines country material with a cappella arrangement, and its performance setup gives it a more traditional vocal-group structure than a typical pop ensemble.
Television success
The group wins the fourth season of The Sing-Off on NBC in 2013. In the final stage of the competition, it performs an arrangement of Hunter Hayes’ “I Want Crazy”. The win brings a $100,000 prize and a recording contract with Sony.
Albums
Home Free releases its first album, Crazy Life, in 2014, following a digital release earlier that year. Later in 2014, it releases the Christmas album Full of Cheer. In 2015, it issues Country Evolution.
