Holyghost is a United States hardcore and sludge group led by Human Furnace, best known as the vocalist of Ringworm. The project acts as a more wide-ranging outlet for his ideas than Ringworm, while still drawing on hardcore intensity and heavy metal weight.

Release history

The group’s self-titled CD appears on Deathwish in 2006. It develops from basement recordings and late-night sessions, and is described through its cold, jagged sound and layered vocal style.

Style and influences

Holyghost brings together apocalyptic punk and heavy metal influences. The music is linked with bands such as Nausea and Amebix on one side, and early Crowbar and Celtic Frost on the other, with Human Furnace’s vocal attack sitting over the top.

Packaging and presentation

The 2006 release features new mastering and artwork and packaging by J. Bannon of Converge. It is presented as an official introduction to the project’s recorded work.
