Hjaltalín is an Icelandic group from Reykjavík, active since 2004. It begins as a one-off project in the music scene at MH, a Reykjavík gymnasium known for producing musicians, and later develops into a larger band with changing personnel and a shifting sound.

Style and instrumentation

The group is difficult to place in a single genre. Its music draws on contemporary indie rock, 1960s pop, classical music and acid jazz. The line-up includes vocals, guitar, drums, bass, keyboards, bassoon and violin, which reflects the band’s broad musical range.

Hjaltalín includes Högni Egilsson on vocals and guitar, Sigríður Thorlacius on vocals, Axel Haraldsson on drums, Guðmundur Óskar Guðmundsson on bass, Hjörtur Ingvi Jóhannsson on keyboards, Rebekka Bryndís Björnsdóttir on bassoon, and Viktor Orri Árnason on violin.
