Higher Ground
Higher Ground is a group name used by several different acts in the input, including a Swedish rock band, a New Mexico-based bluegrass group, a rock jam band from Jupiter, Florida, and a British deep house act. The only set of facts tied to the authoritative entry identifies the artist as a United States group, based in New Mexico, with Pat Mahoney as a member.
One version of Higher Ground is described as a Swedish rock band formed in Sandviken in 1994, with Peter Lindberg on vocals, Niklas Hammarberg on guitars, Erik Pettersson on drums, Ulf Merkell on keyboards and Petter Eriksson on bass guitar. That line-up is said to write songs collectively through jam sessions, drawing on a wide range of styles. Its releases include the EP Keep on Walkin´ on ProActive Records in the UK, the debut album Perfect Chaos, the 2004 album A Thousand Pieces on AOR Heaven, the 2009 release 13 tracks on Speechless Music Productions, and the 2012 single “Missing You”. Its sound is described as mixing rock, pop melody, soul, classic rock dynamics and AOR-influenced melodic rock.
Another Higher Ground is a bluegrass group whose roots are said to form in late summer 1996. That version of the band plays bluegrass-oriented material, including original songs and rearranged lesser-known standards, and wins first place at the Santa Fe Bluegrass Festival in 1996 and again in 1998. It later adds Dave Devlin on mandolin, Diane Lujan on lead and harmony vocals, and Fred Bolton on guitar, lead and harmony vocals.
A further account describes a Higher Ground formed in 1998 by singer-songwriter Uno Annalon, with a debut album titled Torr Stories and material inspired by the legends and myths of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. This version is also compared favourably with the Moody Blues.
Separate brief descriptions also refer to a rock jam band from Jupiter, Florida, active from 2006 to 2007, and a British deep house act involving producer Davey “Lost It” Button and songwriter J. Gavigan, whose only hit is “Thru You”.
