High Voltage

American hard rock group of the same name

The American High Voltage forms in 1985 in Pittsburgh and develops a local reputation through club shows and support slots for touring acts including Bang Tango, Danger Danger, The Outlaws, Blue Murder, Leatherwolf and Kings X. Its first self-released four-song demo of original material appears in 1989 and gains radio play around Pittsburgh. The band wins the 1989 Edinboro Hotel Evergreen’s Battle of the Bands and appears on the compilation Get to the Point. A second studio demo follows in 1991 and also receives airplay, including on WDVE’s Homegrown show. The lineup includes lead guitarist Nikki Catanese, vocalist Joshua Holmes, bassist Mike Mizia, drummer John Karbo and keyboard/sampler player John Fuechslin, with earlier members including a bassist later replaced by Mizia.
