Hey

Hey is a Polish rock band that forms in Szczecin in 1992, founded by guitarist Piotr Banach and singer Kasia Nosowska. The group becomes one of the best-known Polish rock acts of the 1990s and is active from 1992 to 2017.

Style and development

The band sometimes describes itself as Poland’s first grunge band, although its sound is more closely associated with melodic, guitar-led rock. Its early image and music also draw on new wave and heavy metal influences. The first three albums include songs in both Polish and English.

During the band’s mid-1990s peak, Hey sells out stadiums across Poland. It also tries to reach the English-language market, including overseas concerts and an English-language version of its 1995 album. After that effort does not attract wider interest, the band writes in Polish only and develops a heavier sound with stronger industrial influences.

Members

The group’s members include Jacek Chrzanowski, Paweł Krawczyk, Robert Ligiewicz, Nosowska, and Marcin Żabiełowicz.
