Herod
Herod is a Brazilian instrumental band from São Paulo that works in sludge metal, post-metal, progressive metal and post-hardcore. The project begins as the idea of guitarist Pierre Carroz, who first develops its sound in Malmö, Sweden in 2006. While living there, he records dark, heavy riffs on baritone guitar using an old 4-track recorder brought from Switzerland, drawing on the cold atmosphere around him.
Formation and early line-up
In 2011, after returning to Switzerland, Carroz meets former Twisted drummer Fabien Vodoz and A Fine Day to Exit singer David Glassey. The three form Herod and start writing material that becomes their debut album, They Were None. Although the band is instrumental according to the verified facts, the biography identifies Glassey as part of the original line-up.
They Were None
Herod records They Were None in late 2012 with Swiss producer Julien Fehlmann, whose credits also include work with The Ocean, Coilguns and Unfold. The album is mastered by Svante Forsback, known for work with Volbeat and Rammstein. The record is described as using downtuned, distorted guitars and as drawing comparisons with The Chariot, Breach and Cult of Luna. It appears in 2014.
Herod’s music is presented as direct and uncompromising, with a heavy sound built around dense, low-end guitar work and a bleak atmosphere.
