hello

Hello is a British glam rock band from London, formed in 1971 and active since then. It starts out under the name The Age before taking the name Hello. The band is associated with Bell Records and is part of the teen appeal glam rock scene in England.

Career and chart success

Hello has its biggest commercial impact in the UK and Germany in the mid-1970s. In the UK Singles Chart, it reaches the Top 10 with “Tell Him”, a cover of The Exciters’ 1963 hit, and “New York Groove”, written by Russ Ballard of Argent. “New York Groove” later becomes a solo Billboard Hot 100 hit in the United States for Ace Frehley of Kiss.

Line-up and later history

The band’s original lead singer and rhythm guitarist is Bob Bradbury. By 1979, with no recording contract, Hello splits up. Former guitarist Keith Marshall later releases the solo track “Only Crying” in 1981, and the song finds chart success worldwide. In 2002, Bradbury reforms the band and remains the only original member in that line-up.
