Hector Moralez
Hector Moralez is a United States-based DJ and producer who is active in San Francisco and Los Angeles. He begins playing records at Rebecca’s weekly night at The Top, as well as at Liquid and other DJ bars, and later holds a Friday residency at The Top.
Residencies and DJ work
At The Top, Moralez shares the booth with a wide range of DJs and producers, including Buck, Miguel Migs, Lance Desardi, J.T. Donaldson, Wally Callerio, Joeski, Onionz, the Idjut Boys, Joshua Iz, Solar, Mark E. Quark, John Howard, Simon DK, Steve Loria, Jeno, Tony, Gene Farris, Mark Ambrose, Pepe Bradock, Alexi Delano, Evil Eddie Richards and Gemini. He also establishes a reputation with regular appearances in cities across the US, including Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle and Chicago.
European dates and studio collaborations
In the fall of 1999, RaSoul takes Moralez on tour in Europe, where they spend several weeks in Germany, Berlin and Amsterdam. They also work together in the studio in the basement of their flat, and some of those recordings are later released on RaSoul’s Soulfood label. In 2000, Moralez travels to Paris and performs at Rex Club, Queen and L’Enfer, and at The Trolley Bus in Marseilles.
Collaborations and releases
Moralez meets Phil Weeks in Paris and works with him on several tracks. Their track “Time to Yourself” appears on Weeks’ Robsoul label. Moralez and Weeks also remix tracks for Mazi and David Duriez, and they release an EP together under the Fries and Bridges name for Music for Freaks. Moralez also works on material for Brique Rouge, Primal Records, Dufflebag Recordings in Los Angeles, and Vista, a subdivision of Large Recordings.
Later activity
Alongside his studio work, Moralez maintains a busy schedule of club dates and continues to work full-time with Primal Records. He also plays in Madrid at Club Cool, The Cream, The Room and The Weekend, and performs in Barcelona, Paris and London.
