Heavy lies the crown

Heavy Lies The Crown are a group from Middlesbrough, active in the UK hardcore and metal scene. Their sound is described as a mix of hardcore and metal with melodies, heavy breakdowns and introspective lyrics. The band is also associated with brutal death metal, technical death metal, death metal and deathcore.

History

The band forms in 2009, when the original five-piece begins writing together and plays its first show after spending long periods rehearsing. The members are then aged between 16 and 20. Over the next five months, the group tours across the UK and builds a committed following. As the lineup develops, vocalist Shane Craig and bassist Will Walker leave and are replaced as the band moves on to new material.

Line-up

The band members listed are Scott Rudd on vocals, Graham Sanderson and Dan Williams on guitars, Ian Taylor on bass, and Edward Terry on drums.

Releases

The Family Demise is the band’s first EP. It appears in 2011 and marks the band’s move into a new phase of songwriting after the lineup change.

Style and reputation

Heavy Lies The Crown are described as a direct, band-focused act within a scene they see as full of empty fashion. Their music combines intensity with melody and places emphasis on sharp breaks and reflective lyrics.
