Heather Peace is a British singer, songwriter and actress from Bradford, West Yorkshire. She works across jazz and pop, and releases music through Kaleidoscope Records Ltd.

Early life and musical background

She grows up in Bradford, where she sings in church from a young age and becomes a cantor, leading hymns and psalms. Her early musical influences include gospel, Motown and jazz. Free piano lessons from Ireleen Cockroft help her learn classical grades.

Acting and stage work

At 18, she moves to Manchester to attend drama school, financing her three-year Stanislavski-based course with a jazz residency at a bar on Canal Street. After graduating, she takes roles in musical theatre and later becomes known on television, including as the female lead in London’s Burning. She also appears in Ultimate Force, The Chase, Emmerdale, Lip Service and Waterloo Road, where she plays teacher Nicki Boston.

Music career

Peace begins performing in local pubs before touring the UK with guitar and piano, building an audience with theatrical pop songs, spoken banter and a strong live presence. Her profile grows through social media and word of mouth, and she later sells out a two-week UK tour as well as shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, the Glee Clubs and London’s Union Chapel.

Her early recorded material, including an acoustic demo and a tour DVD sold through her website, shifts in thousands without marketing. She writes songs while acting, then starts gigging seriously again after a period of limited acting work. Her debut album, Fairytales, is recorded in London with Nigel Wright, who produces it. The album features string-led piano songs, guitar parts, dramatic vocals and a gospel choir, and its lyrics focus on difficult relationships and disappointment. The lead single is Better Than You.

Collaborations and recording

Peace works with Nigel Wright after knowing him for years; they first connect over a shared love of musical theatre and large female vocalists. Wright also produces an earlier cover of The Rose when she is briefly signed by Simon Cowell. She later raises money for album manufacturing, distribution and marketing through Pledgemusic.
