Heather Findlay
Heather Findlay is a singer and songwriter from Doncaster, United Kingdom, best known for her role as lead vocalist with Mostly Autumn from 1997 to 2010. She is also a solo artist and works in a number of collaborative projects, including Odin Dragonfly, Mantra Vega and The Heather Findlay Band.
Career
Findlay spends the early part of her career with Mostly Autumn, a band associated with progressive rock and rock. She leaves the group in 2010 to focus on a solo career. She also appears on Ayreon’s The Human Equation, where she represents the emotion “love” in the album’s concept.
She is one half of Odin Dragonfly. Alongside that project, she develops material under her own name and describes the solo work as broad enough to be issued in a series of EPs rather than as a single album. Her first solo release is The Phoenix Suite, a five-track EP produced by Chris Johnson. It features Dave Kilminster on guitar, Steve Vantsis on bass and Alex Cromarty on drums.
Collaborations and live work
Findlay also works on other recordings, including a song on Liam Davison’s solo album A Treasure of Well-Set Jewels. She returns to live performance in 2011, often appearing as an acoustic duo with Chris Johnson and supporting Touchstone on tour. She also makes her full-band live debut at the Cambridge Rock Festival with a five-piece electric line-up based around the musicians from The Phoenix Suite.
Her acoustic recording Live at the Café 68 is prepared as a second release, capturing a set with Chris Johnson.
Style and releases
The Phoenix Suite is presented as a darker, more unusual and atmospheric collection, with original artwork elements taken from Heather Findlay’s own painting used for the CD packaging. A limited-edition run of 100 copies in sleeve format sells out quickly through her own website.
