Head Of Programmes is the alias of James MacGregor, a singer-songwriter based in South West England. He works in an alt-country and indie rock style, writing simple songs that focus on themes of love, joy and failure. His music is described through comparisons to artists such as Smog, Sun Kil Moon and Bonnie Prince Billy, and he is also linked with the broader traditions associated with Leonard Cohen and Neil Young.

Activity and performance

He writes, records and tours continuously from 2006, and he performs both solo and with a band. His live work includes shows with Mount Eerie and The Microphones, Alasdair Roberts, Joe Lally of Fugazi, WeVsDeath, J Mascis and The Fog, and Seth Lakeman. He also records a session for BBC radio.

Releases

His debut release is The Magnetic South, which appears in 2008. A later LP, Goodbye, Forever, is set for release on UPR Records. His recorded work also includes compilations.
