Hate Gallery
Hate Gallery is a British/Swedish rock band formed in 2006 and based between London and Berlin. The group is led by principal songwriter Janne Jarvis, who also sings and plays bass. Jarvis positions the band outside any single scene, place, fashion or trend, and describes it as a reaction to the things it rejects, including surveillance and corporate control, while stressing that it is a rock’n’roll band rather than a political project.
Line-up and background
Jarvis first finds success with the British rock band Radiator, which signs to EMI Records and releases a debut album that draws strong reviews. Radiator then tours with Queens of the Stone Age, Motörhead, Backyard Babies, Pitchshifter and others before internal tensions, tax problems and record company issues bring the group to an end.
He later joins Elevation with Pete Vuckovic and Keith Baxter of 3 Colours Red, and then plays bass in Queen Adreena. Jarvis also fills in on bass for Kory Clarke’s Space Age Playboys when they support Metallica, which leads to a later connection with Clarke’s band Warrior Soul. In 2006, after spending several months in Stockholm and returning to London to look for musicians, Jarvis recruits Swedish guitarist Rille Lundell, Finnish guitarist Petja Lepola and drummer Freddie Cocker. Lundell and Jarvis meet through Warrior Soul rehearsals and quickly decide to work together.
Debut album
Hate Gallery’s debut album, Compassion Fatigue, is recorded after the band signs to The Unit Music Label. The album is distributed by Sony/BMG in Scandinavia and Cargo in the UK. It is presented as a short, compact release of just over 30 minutes. The record includes the title track Compassion Fatigue and is described by the band as a first statement against the forces it opposes. A second record is already written at that stage, and the band states an intention to release three records within a year.
Members
The known line-up includes Janne Jarvis on vocals and bass, Rille Lundell on guitar, Petja Lepola on guitar and Freddie Cocker on drums. Cocker is formerly the drummer in Swedish pop-rock band The Callahan.
