Harvey Bainbridge
Harvey Bainbridge is a British musician from Dorset, United Kingdom, born in 1949. He is best known for his work in Hawkwind, where he plays bass and keyboards, and for his solo recordings. His solo albums include Interstellar Chaos and Red Shift.
Career
In 1977, Bainbridge joins Dave Brock and Robert Calvert in Sonic Assassins, a group Brock forms to run alongside Hawkwind and concentrate on local concerts in the South West of England. After Hawkwind splits following its 1978 United States tour, Bainbridge is asked to join Brock and Calvert’s new band, Hawklords. By 1979, Hawklords has largely fallen apart, and although the legal status of the Hawkwind name is still unsettled, Brock and Bainbridge re-form Hawkwind.
He plays bass with Hawkwind until late 1984, then moves to keyboards when Brock brings in Alan Davey on bass. He continues in that role until 1991.
Later work
After leaving Hawkwind, Bainbridge works mainly as a solo performer. He also performs with Lancashire space rock group Earthling Society at several shows. In 2006, Harvey Bainbridge with Spaceseed releases The Empire of Night on Zeta Reticuli Records.
