Gypsy Hill
Gypsy Hill is a London, United Kingdom group made up of DJ Kobayashi and Herbert Newbert. The project brings together Balkan brass, surf-rock Mediterranean guitar lines, Arabic and Jewish melodies, heavy basslines, scratching, electronics and beats.
Line-up and sound
It begins as a producer duo before expanding into a seven-piece live band. The live setup includes beats and brass, and the group develops a reputation for high-energy performances that also use big-screen visuals and dancers.
Live activity and festivals
The group appears at major UK summer festivals including Glastonbury, Guardian’s Hay Festival, The Big Chill, Reading/Leeds and Bestival. It also plays live dates in France, Belgium and Germany, and performs in Switzerland, including a show at the KIFF in Aarau.
Remixes and recordings
Gypsy Hill works on remix projects for Balkan Beat Box, Al Jawala and Boom Pam, and also begins work on an album of original material.
