Guillotine

Guillotine is a group from the United Kingdom active since 2016. The name is used by several different acts across metal, hardcore and related styles, including a UK thrash metal project, but the documented UK group is listed as active from 2016 onwards.

Styles and scenes

The name is associated with thrash metal, old school thrash metal, speed metal, thrash and hardcore. One version of the act is a thrash metal band from Umeå, Sweden, formed by Fredrik Mannberg and Nils Eriksson of Nocturnal Rites as a side project focused on thrash metal. Other Guillotine acts appear in hardcore punk, heavy metal with thrash influences, crossover thrash, black thrash metal, death-thrash metal, dubstep and visual kei.

Releases and activity

The Swedish thrash metal Guillotine releases Under the Guillotine as a debut album in 1997 and returns after a long break with Blood Money in 2008. Another Guillotine act in Los Angeles releases the album Bring Down the Curtain in 1989. The Russian death-thrash metal version releases Вой in 1992, the EP Humanity In Blood in 1993 and Confession of a Blasphemer in 1994. The Croatian black thrash metal Guillotine forms in 2010 and releases the demo Satanic Salutations.

Other Guillotine projects

Additional acts using the name include a hardcore punk band from Neuss, Germany, which releases Falsches Glück on 7-inch and a four-way split CD with KSM40, Mass//Strangulation and Nervous Breakdown, plus the Superfuzzed EP tape. There is also a heavy metal band with strong thrash influences from Târgu Mureș, Romania, formed in 2006 and recording a demo in December 2008; a Brazilian thrash metal band formed in São Paulo in 2003; a French Oi! band with female vocals; an Indian progressive death metal band from Delhi; a dubstep producer from Bristol, Stanley Davis, who releases on Firepower Records, Bassweight Records, NSD: Black Label and Odio Records; and a Japanese visual kei band formed in 2021 that releases one EP and four singles.
